My boyfriend saw a commerical for a form of birth control that is implanted into the woman [by her doctor] in order to not not kids. How long, however, is up to the woman. My boyfriend was telling me that it can last up to five years, and being young and not yet ready for a family, I'll admit that I'm highly intrested.
So, does anyone know the name of this birth control thing, and know how much it would cost? Thanks!Form of Birth Control Implanted into Woman by Doctor and can Last up to 5 years?
There is an IUD that lasts for 5 years. Its called Miridia and it's inserted through the cervix into the uterus. It had hormones that are released into your system over the course of 5 years. There is also an IUD that is made out of plastic and copper that is called the Para-guard and it lasts for 10-12 years. In the clinic where I work we have the Para-guard and I do know that women who have never given birth can have a hard time getting an IUD inserted because their cervix has never been dilated and it can be extremely painful and cause the woman to have very heavy periods and terrible cramps. There are other forms of birth control that we encourage those women to try. One is call Implanon and its inserted into the arm and lasts for 3 years. Where I work our prices are discounted so I only know those. The IUD is $400.00 and the Implanon is around $700.00. If price is an issue or you don't want something that is actually implanted or inserted into your cervix then there is the Nuva Ring which is a ring that you insert for three weeks, remove for one week to have your period and then you insert a new one. There are some other options as well such as the patch, pills and the diaphragm. You should call you doctor or your local Planned Parenthood and they can help you decide what is best for you. Hope this helps you al little and good luck to you and your boyfriend. :)Form of Birth Control Implanted into Woman by Doctor and can Last up to 5 years?
Here's some information.

BTW, I had a friend that had this implanted and she had problems the entire time it was implanted. She bled everyday for over a year.
I'd think long and hard before I tried this.....
I think that your referring to an IUD or IntraUterine Device. It is inserted into the cervix and can prevent pregnancy for up to five years. It is better than being on the pill because you dont have to take a pill everyday or put on a condom before sex.
Below is a website that explaines it more.
long term implanted BC has been known to cause serious problems in women,, talk to you gyno ,, and it will not stop STDs or clamidia or hpv virus,,,
I think it is called Norplant. Not sure on price though.
You;re probably talkin about an IUD (intrautrean device), and I think the one he's probably seen commercials for is Mirena. I don't know how much it would cost but you can probably call your doc or like a planned parenthood and ask them.
It's called Implanon and it was just recently approved by the FDA. It's probably the best form of birth control.. Up there with abstaining from sex and having your tubes tied. Here's a little more information that I found on ABC news... Basically covers everything (including price):
