How reliable are condoms as form of birth control?

As a form of Birth control? How do they get holes in them? How easy is it for the condom to break? How reliable are condoms as form of birth control?
I hate to burst your condom, so to speak, but not reliable at all. That's how I became pregnant. My daughter is now 25. I think that says it all.How reliable are condoms as form of birth control?
If used properly and every time you have sex, they're actually pretty effective- like 98% is what the gyno says. They're also the only form of BC that can help prevent STDs. To give yourself better protection, use spermicide to go with them or get some with spermicide. Sometimes one will have a defect and have a hole in it, sometimes one will just break if you get the cheap ones, sometimes rowdy sex can break them, sometimes clumsiness can... it really just depends.
if used correctly they are VERY effective! There is always that little .02% chance that something will happen so if you are nervous I would suggest using a contraceptive foam or film. They are very easy to use and also very effective. (And it doesn't hurt that most smell nice too! lol!) I personally like VCF brand. I liked the films because they are very discreet in their tiny packaging and all you gotta do is run to the bathroom and 15 minutes later you can have sex and be protected! The foam is nice if you are with someone you feel comfortable with and just say ';be right back! gotta foam it up!'; and that one smells nice ;)

Always use the foam or film as a back up though!

oh and it is not very easy for a condom to break if it has some kind of lubricant on it. Never use the un-lubed ones! They break nearly every time!
omg you need to be on birth control cause condoms aren't ****. please take the pills every day cause my boyfriend got his ex pregnant three years ago cause the condom broke. but it only takes one time trust me. take the pills im on the pills and i have had sex for three years with him and have not used a condom and have not gotten pregnant.
well people are cruel i know people that take little needles and put holes in condoms so if u have a condom make sure u have only had it because that one little needle hole can get u pregnant and u wont even notice its their. annd the condom can break if u dont leave enough space at the top for the *** to be in. once a guy has finished and you still plan on going on for more i would consider changing condoms again because thats how they pop. just be careful
Im reading a lot of: 99% when used properly...

well, who knows how to use it properly?? and in the heat of the moment?... mmm... I DO NOT TRUST THEM!! they're OK for STDs and for casual sex, but if you are looking for birth control try something else.. A broken condom can ruin the best of the sexual experiences.. so.. NO.. sorry..

all the stats are about the same from one form to another. condoms are 99% effective when used correctly. the key here is used correctly.

most that fail are because they have been damaged. you cannot expose them to heat or age. latex and poly condoms both degrade when exposed to heat or time.
Condoms are 99.5% effective when used properly EVERY time.

They are 0% effective when left in the drawer or purse.
my gosh i wouldnt even take a chance and i am 34 - old enough to know better when i get active i will use pill %26amp; rubber both and carefully !!
if you are careful putting it on, choose the right size etc, they are about 95% effective. if you feel it split stop straight away
Just go on the pill. Way better. Truly.
85%
