Why do so many women use abortion as a form of birth control?

Before anyone jumps on me... I do think that there are situations in which abortion is arguably appropriate, like rape, incest, and serious danger to the life of the mother during pregnancy.





What I don't understand is women that get several abortions over the course of their fertile years because they don't use proper birth control beforehand.





What is it? Laziness? Ignorance? Poor moral fiber?Why do so many women use abortion as a form of birth control?
I think it is just blatant selfishness. They care more about what will be easier on them than what will be best for an innocent child. I am not anti-abortion. I am probably more liberal about this topic than a lot of people. However, I don't believe that it should be used repeatedly because of people not learning from their previous mistakes. That makes me sick.Why do so many women use abortion as a form of birth control?
I don't think it's a staggering number. I also think that many women use it after other methods of birth control failed. I'm not sure if there are actual statistics on this---I'd love to see them---But I don't think there is a high number or percentage of women who use abortion (a method of last resort) as their first stop for birth control.





At least I sure hope not.

some women are callous. I had a friend (she dies at age 10) her mother had one after another knowing that my friend wanted a sibling and was tired of being alone.





I would say Poor Moral Fiber and the teaching of there are no absolutes. if abortion is right for her but wrong for me then she (whoever the she is) will keep doing it because ';there is nothing wrong with it';
It doesn't require any advance planning.
Because they don't have a heart or a conscience. If they did they couldn't kill an innocent baby. I feel it is all 3 laziness, ignorance, and poor moral fiber.
Because it is legal and they have no respect for life, they are selfish and don't want to bother with a kid or more kids in case they already have some. Hopefully one day they will realize what they have done.


Then again some of these women don't deserve to be mothers and these children would just suffer by their sides.
I am qualified to answer based on having seven abortions.


I never once felt that I was pregnant with a baby. It was a fetus. They were all in the first three months.


It is not correct to say that I used abortion as a form of birth control. It was a last resort. Where were the men that impregnated me during the abortions? Only the one that raped me even paid for it. Even though the others were all long term boyfriends I was in committed relationships with.





I have tried as contraceptive measures:





1. IUD--ended up in the emergency room with a perforated uterus from it.


2. diaphragm--was peeing blood from severe bladder infections from it--it was blocking the flow of urine from the bladder and causeing bladder infections which were very awful


3. pill--caused heavy and constant bleeding which never completely stopped


4. foam--was very messy and not at all convenient


5. sponge--was almost ideal form of birth control but was taken off the market


6. condoms--used almost exclusively and the few times when not used, I got pregnant, so I guess if you liked, if it makes you feel good, you could say that those times I got pregnant I was too lazy or immoral to use a concom.





The first time I got pregnant I was date raped.


The second, third and fourth time I was living with the love of my life and would do anything for him. I was young and in love.


The fifth time I was living with another guy I loved.


When you live with someone it is hard to keep putting on that condom when you are in bed half asleep all the time.


The sixth time I was again madly in love with my boyfriend. I don't remember the actaul circumstances but we were irresponsible. So shoot me.


The seventh time I was again living with a boyfriend I loved. We were dirt poor, living in a tiny trailor at a campground with almost no food or heat in the winter.


Again, when you are living with the man you love, and can't use any birth control except condoms, and are extremely fertile, you get pregnant.


I never had any money at all. The last time I got pregnant I was living with the guy in the trailer and had to leave when he hit me. I moved into a place that cost $200 a month and lost my job and could't even pay the monthly rent. I had nothing but the clothes on my back. I was lucky that I could get the state medicare program to pay the cost of the abortion. Otherwise I would have committed suicide. I was out of options.

ps: I didn't get myself pregnant, there was always a man involved equally. Why reserve your moral outrage for just the female half of the equation?
In Jurassic Park they used the phrase ';life will find a way';. I think that concept makes the thought of birth control go right out the window when it's show time.





A temporary amnesia or blindness, so to speak.





Only afterwards, when the reproductive emotions have subsided does the person recognize, ';Whoa, this is not what I wanted.';





Just a thought...
Yeah I think it becomes a convenience for that woman to do this. She has sex and is not thinking about using protection and becomes lazy at the sound of contraceptive. Or her ignorance of sleeping continuously with men and not being smart about it leads her to getting pregant and needing a quick fix so she can avoid the responsiblity of rasing a child. I believe this is a huge problem in america and I am against this all the way. I have been a part of this with two woman in my life in which I regret. Having three childern now I will never do this again and hope no other has to expericence the pain it brings. I can't even imagine the pain a woman feels and to do it over and over again becomes poor moral fiber.

I agree with you too, however I don't think as many women as you think do use it as a form of birth control. My mom was forced to go through that type of procedure when I was younger because of a late term miscarriage, and she said that no woman could possibly want to go through that procedure once they have had it done once. Not saying that my mom knows everything, but she described it being very painful physically and mentally.
Well, I've come to the conclusion that these people just honestly don't think. People do things everyday including me and you that we wouldn't agree with. Abortion is an issue that will always be on the round table of discussion it will always be something that everyone has a different opinion about. Whether proper birth control is used or not people you will not ever ';control'; per say. Good question.
I think it's a combination of all three. Plus maybe a lack of self-respect. And maybe they are genuinely stupid, and don't understand that the reason they have to have an abortion is because they are irrespensible with sex.

in the heat of the moment no one cares about protection.I think that its not fair to kill a innocent child because people are careless.
I agree with you on all levels. I know a girl who feels that abortion is her birth control. This I belive for her is her way of doing what she wants and not having to follow thru with the consequences. I belive it's both poor moral fiber and laziness. I don't some women see an unborn fetus at a living being and just a cell (For lack of better words).

Looking at a lot of the questions on this site I would say ignorance rather than 'lack of moral fibre' (so judgemental %26amp; arrogant a phrase).





Also no form of contraception (other than abstinence or anal sex) is 100% effective so I would say bad luck plays a part too.
i hate that word ABORTION if some one was raped then i can understand. but i hate people that get pregnant and have an abortion. they could at least give the baby up for adoption to women that are really desperate to have children. i have identical twin boys and i fell pregnant when i was 16 and i was thinking about having an abortion because i was so young but then i thought that i would be killing something that was a part of me and i don't regret keeping my twins they are nearly 2 and i am nearly 19 it is hard sometimes but i love my sons to pieces they are my shining lights
some woman just don't care.the ones that do it over and over again are not the type of people you want to meet if u know what i mean .there is no excuse nowadays for doing that.

Just because now a days we have so many anticonceptive methods, and all of them are so confused and not so well explained about the risks and the bennefits, so in the end of choices, thay may choice not to do it...


How many times did you heard that an 'medical-x' makes your body reacts like that weird form, and the 'medical-y' disturbs that part of you... them you allways need to go on a Doctor before, it's the best way, there's no other choice...

I think it's a case of all the things you say. I can only think of one situation where abortion shouldbe acceptable and that's in cases like ectopic pregnancy when there is serious danger to both mother and baby and the baby is likely to die anyway. But that's my opinion. I think they just take it in their stride as if it's like taking the morning after pill or something. To be honest, those people who use abortions as birth control, surely have done the kid a favour! But I would still not condone it. Both my kids were results of failed contraception and it has been difficult at times but how can anyone think of killing them?
This type of question can be very political. For every woman who has had an abortion, or abortions situations are very different. Many woman may be using a type of birth control, do you know that they don't?? Being lazy, or Ignorance has nothing to do with that decision. and so you know, that decision is with that person for the rest of their lives. Living with that is awful for those. You one day may come upon a relitave or friend who confides in you about having a abortion, and what will you say to them- Where u too lazy??????
