If you really study the Matrix trilogy you will discover that it uncovers the truth about personal freedom – that we have all been turned into ';coppertops'; and the government feeds off our productive energy (actually steals it). Government is a religion and the most destructive kind because it is a product of evil men.





If you want to free your mind, first consider how little freedom you actually have. When you figure out how you lost it you can begin to regain it.

Well in a sense, but there are some differences.





In ';The Matrix,'; the Matrix actually existed (in the sense that it was an actual running computer program) but in real life there's no indication that God exists.





Almost all the experiences of everyone inside ';The Matrix'; pointed towards the Matrix being real, while the experiences of people in real life do not point towards the existence of a God. Most people just take the existence of God on faith.





The people stuck in the Matrix had little way of knowing they were in the Matrix unless they were freed. Anyone who saw a strange occurrence which hinted that they were in the Matrix turned into an Agent. People in real life on the other hand, have plenty of evidence produced by science which suggests that there is no God.

That's why Marx referred to it as the ';opiate of the masses.'; The Matrix was used in exactly the same way, to keep the minds of humanity occupied while the machines harvested our bodies for energy.





But did you catch the religious symbolism in the rest of the movie? They laid it on pretty thick. The sins of humanity created the problem (essentially, hubris led humans to believe that they were above the machines that served them), and Neo saved humanity by sacrificing himself to lead our species into a new age of peace and freedom. So the ideas are a little more complicated and tortuous than something as simple as ';The Matrix is religion!';
It controls us so we have to accept what it/they want us to accept as reality. Then they ask us to take sides against what they say is wrong, without question. Because not to do as they say would be less than society expects. Then we live our lives not as we wish to but as they wish us to. They turn us into sheep and use religion/politics to round us up. To frighten us into doing their will, which they say comes from god.






no. religion brings out the truth of reality no matter what religion you are. it lets you choose what you want to believe in and how you want to practice your religion. no one will know what the true religion is until they die. by then of course it will be too late if you have chosen wrong.
Logic would say that it is either





1) the form of control





or





2) the pill that frees your mind.





How can you know? The two realities don't always agree so there's got to be one that's less-real. Which is it?
How do you know your reality is real. You believe only what you see. A small mind is the most controlling force in the universe.
