Recommendation for a 2nd form of birth control?

I just became sexually active. We've used the type of condoms with spermicidal foam on them, but I obviously want to add a second type of birth control to the mix because one form isn't safe enough. The Pill is an option, but I'd like to explore other options first. I'm thinking spermicidal foam, has anyone used it and has feedback? What else might you guys recommend?Recommendation for a 2nd form of birth control?
Try the pill. With spermicidal foam, it can irritate the vagina.Recommendation for a 2nd form of birth control?
depends on your age, but IUD's work for some.
When I first became sexually active, I choose to use the pill, however, being young and very immature about such things as possible pregnancy, I found myself abusing it by using the pill to skip periods and such. Then, I found it to be more of a hassle to remember to keep taking it and had trouble turning it into a routine. I decided to try the depo shot, and well, that didn't work because it really messed with my hormones. I tried different things for a while, condoms, pulling out, that kind of stuff, and now I am a proud parent of a three year old little girl. I got tired of the pills and shots and decided to try and IUD. BEST CONTRACEPTIVE EVER!! But of course it depends on the type. I tried two before I decided on the Mirena. It doesn't have as much hormones in it as the pill and they are just as effective as a condom. It hurts a bit when getting them put in, but to not have to worry for five years is worth it! Oh, don't get the copper IUD, it may last longer, but it causes a lot of bleeding and hurts much more than the Mirena.
I am in the Medical Field Mother of 3 Teenage Daughter

I NEVER recommend the Pill it is too easy for you to forget to take

I suggest the Depo Shot or the IUC (which is 5 years of pregnancy protection) and can be removed prior if you want to have a baby

The issue with the Patch is you have to remember to put it on and with the Nuva Ring you have to remember to put it in.

You can still get pregant with the Patch ,Pill and Nuva Ring
the pill works great if you can remember to take it everyday at the same time...the depo shot is good too but beware that can cause you to have long periods or no periods...it messed me up after a year of using it. the spermicidal foam works but personally i always hated that stuff because of the smell and stickyness it would cause afterwards.
I went through the same thing you are. I did ridiculous amounts of research looking for a form of birth control that was right for me and wasn't apt to making me crazy - I wasn't too keen on hormones because I knew I'd get waaay too moody on them.. and then there's all the stuff about lipid profiles and liver function that drove me away from it even more.

A lot of digging on the internet led me to a forum where I found out about an alternative (here in the US, anyway) form of b/c called centchroman. Here's a link that has some pretty clear-cut information on it: http://www.gynaeonline.com/centchroman.h鈥?/a>

I've been on it for about a month with no problems so far. Since it's not marketed here you have to order it online so it takes about two weeks for it to get to you, depending where you get it from. I used AllDayChemist.com and it only costs $.83 per 8-pill pack. Shipping's a kicker but it's still less expensive than most types of birth control you get prescribed to you.

You'll read a lot about taking 2 pills/week for the first 3 months and thereafter switching to 1pill/week but I personally used a loading dose regime (2 pills first time I took it, 1 pill/week after). This has been proven to be effective as well with less side effects but different things work for different people. Your weight is a factor too; the higher dosage might work better for heavier girls. The lighter dose works for me since I'm a bit skinny. Either way it's a good idea to use backup for about 1-2 months so it has time to kick in if you're thinking about ditching the condoms sometime.

Any combination of birth control is better than just one, so there's no harm in getting spermicidal foam or a sponge. I feel safest with something that actually has a biological affect but, whatever you choose, do your research and be safe. Good on you for being responsible :)
Up the bum everytime! or really let him shoot in your face or eyes!

good luck!

lube might help with the bum thing!

*** farts are funny
either the bc patches or the nuvia Ring
You could always try spermicidal lube. And of course, if you and your partner really want to delve deeper, look into a diaphragm, cervical cap, etc.
Get an IUD! If you have not had a baby before you may have a harder time convicing your dr. that it is right for you. But It lasts up to 5 years and is 99.9% accurate. You can take it out any time too. I have had mine for 2 yrs and it is wonderful. I have mild spotting every 4 or 5 months. I have not had any weight gain like other forms of birth control. The mirena has a low dosage of hormones. It's great!Another plus is you do not have to remember to take a pill!
Coil :]
The pill is the most common and most effective option, but talk to your doctor and he/she can discuss IUDs, patches, etc. Good job being safe. Good luck.
Well there are things like the implant, but thay probably aren't best if you're still quite young, i would say the pill would be your best option, as it is very effective when taken properly, and can also help with periods, but it might be worth going to see your doctor to discuss options.
