Is organised religion a devisive form of mind control?

.....I'm sure it gives a great many people hope, but I'll bet it ruins a great many lives too.Is organised religion a devisive form of mind control?
yeah, how else do they get so many people to buy that crap?Is organised religion a devisive form of mind control?
I am not a religion believer, but i do recognise the vast difference between a well run methodist community and a community of Shi -ites and Sunis Moslems. However, religion has been at the forefront of most of the worlds worst atrocities, used as a weapon by greedy power hungry men to control and manipulate the masses.A devout believer is his own worst enemy ,as his beliefs over-ride his logic in the resultant relgious frenzy. But,like all things, there are many shades of grey.
At the age of 62 I feel myself becoming more and more concerned and frustrated with the way the world is shaping up. Part of that concern is only natural since I am living in the world. It is natural that one would be concerned about the younger generation who will one day take over the day to day functioning of the world. I weep for myself, my children, grandchildren, and possible great grandchildren. It seems to me that education and common sense are sometimes taking a back seat. When I read questions such as this it is obvious that it has gone all the way to the back of the bus.
You clearly have an opinion on this, and I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong.

But in terms of your stated question - how can anyone know enough to answer it, really? Unless that person is close to having some of the supposed attributes of the Christian, Jewish or Muslim God?

My personal belief is that yes, VERY OFTEN organized religion actually is a divisive form of mind control. There are many different contexts in which social and political and economic elites seem to use religion to manipulate perfectly sincere and honest believers.

The divisiveness of religion -- the notion that almost all of us embrace, that MY beliefs are ';truth'; and YOUR beliefs (whatever they are) are ';abomination'; -- also is pretty evident.

All too often throughout history, we see people enlisting in great religious wars that in the end seem to be fought over the issue, ';We're right, and you're wrong, because OUR God says so.';

But having said all that, can we find any definitive proof for the idea that organized religious is ALWAYS mind control, or ONLY mind control?

I don't see how we can.
It sure is! I was born and raised JW. Now a RC. at heart im am agnostic sometimes atheist. God and religion are forms of mind controll. Im writing with the intention of publishing a collection of my experiences. After researching mind controll in literature on psychology I found enough answers and reasons to show religious leaders brainwash.
As Mark Twain once wrote, ';organized religion is an organized crime';. I tend to agree with this. The control of the mind is in fact the crime. When the mind is stiffled with conformity all creativity is lost. God is the master of creativity.
Excommunication, for example. If you have the audacity to say something different, the religion just kicks you to the curb.

I wouldn't say it's mind control though.
World famous philosopher and humanist Daniel Dennett speaks at Conway Hall, providing ';A Darwinian Perspective on Religions: Past, Present and Future';. Introduction by Richard Dawkins.

its people wanting power, money, and a need to feel important. Some organizations out there are alright, but the lot of them are up to no good.

the bible speaks against organized religion quite plainly.
yes, they use it to keep me in grip of fear of going to hell, very sad isn't it? religion is a load of shi*
Organized religion has mostly lost the way, but it's still better than the liberal atheist mindset of today, for the most part.
Define ';organized religion';. Is that just any religion that has a name?
It only ruins lives when people twist and manipulate it to take advantage or control others.
as much so as the opposing unorganized religion, i guess

( ...is that the question?)
Sometimes. It's thrown together from multiple sources so you really can't ever say its all this or all that.
Not really, no..
you are right on both accounts.
