What is the safest form of birth control?

NOT abstinence, and which ones last longest? i know about the pill, and there are shots and iud's... which would be best? What is the safest form of birth control?
This is a question for your doctor. There are so many types of birth control on the market that it would really be best to discuss your options with your doc and the two of you can decide which is best for you based on your current health and medical history. What is the safest form of birth control?
What do you mean by lasts longest?

It's not like you take a birth control pill and it lasts you a month.

The pill - you take one every day, at the same time. It's upside, it's just a pill. You swallow it, easy.

The shot - generally, you go in every 3 months and get a new shot. It's called Depo-Provera. Upside, you don't have to do it every day, once it's done you don't have to worry about it.

The patch - It's called Ortho Evra. It releases the hormones progestin and estrogen into the bloodstream to stop the ovaries from releasing eggs in most women. You put a new one on at the beginning of each week.

Vaginal ring - NuvaRing, you put it inside your vagina for 3 weeks, then take it out for a week, and continue that cycle. Upside..again convenience. You don't need to worry about taking it every single day.

Then of course there are condoms. Female and male ones.

NONE of these are 100%

Except abstinence of course.

It's really up to you which of these you choose, if any.

To be protected the best, you'll wanna choose one hormonal birth control (like the ring, pill, patch etc) AS WELL as a condom, just to be extra safe.

You can talk to your doctor about which is best for you, all of them come with possible side effects.

There are also many other options.

They can insert a rod under your skin, a Intrauterine device that goes into your uterus, contraceptive sponges, diaphragms etc.

You can go to this website to learn about each one:

I had the IUD. I LOVED it!! It was completely hassle free and lasts for 5 years. My first 3 years i hardly had a periods at all. I spotted during that time of the month if anything. After 3 years i had a mild period. I got it removed in march so we could get pregnant and TA DA!! I am 19.5 weeks :) Due March 13 almost exactly a year after it was removed. If you are married or in a serious committed relationship where you trust your partner then you really won't even need condoms... But remember it DOES NOT prevent STD's!! Just a disclaimer.... And it's 99.5% accurate so there is a small chance it will fail.

HOWEVER... With the pill and other forms of BC if you go on antibiotics or certian medicines it makes your birth control ineffective, that is not true with the IUD. I definitely will get another IUD if my hubby decideds not to get snipped.
Safest in what way?

The most effective reversible method seems to be the Mirena IUD. (It's also long lasting -- good for 5 years or more.)

The method with the least potential for side effects would be condoms + vaginal spermicide.

You can also combine multiple methods for increased effectiveness. (Mirena plus condom for example, would be virtually foolproof.)
If you really want to be safe try using two forms. Use a condom and birth control.
