Why does it seem so seldom that people include abstinence until marriage as a form of birth control?

It's the perfect fix for a multitude of problems like std's and unwanted pregnancy, yet people come up with alternate methods which are NOT healthy mentally or physically, like abortion.

Why don't you love yourselves?Why does it seem so seldom that people include abstinence until marriage as a form of birth control?
Because it is not realistic to impose your Religious or moral beliefs on others who do not share them.Why does it seem so seldom that people include abstinence until marriage as a form of birth control?
These ';alternative'; methods do not consist of just terminating unwanted pregnancies. The most effective and most realistic way to prevent pregnancy and STD transmission is condom usage. Self-control is always the best way, but humans, being the sexual creatures that they are, will inevitably give into their biological urges as there is that instinctive need to mate, even when you take away external influences like the media out of the equation.

As far as marriage is concerned, it isn't the end-goal for everyone despite the insistence by religious fanatics for every member of society to do so nor is marriage the best defense against STD's either. Given that more than half of marriages end in divorce in this country, alone, even those in ';marital bliss'; are at risk when his or her partner decides to stray.
Well it's not really seldom, i'm 16 and in school believe it or not we are still taught abstinence. But like everyone else said, it is unfortunately, unrealistic. Teens get bored and have sex. Most figure it's more effective to tell us how to prevent pregnancy than tell us not to have sex at all. Abstinence is more idealistic.
Our society is so sexually oriented and the pressure for young people to have sex is unprecedented. Even the ones who are wearing the ';Promise '; rings are participating now too. But you are right abstinence would save a lot of heartache. I think if the magazines and media , TV and movies focused more on abstinence as a virtue and a good thing that more young people would agree. Maybe one day.
You asked:

';Why don't you love yourselves?';

I did... but then I did it too much and went blind LOL

j/k

Abstinence is a good idea in principle, but not realistic for most people.
I personally think its a waste of human worry cuz if ppl really cared for themselves they wouldn't be adding drama on purpose in their life
